1. Information We Collect

TruthLens collects only the minimum data necessary to provide the service.

• Video URLs you submit: When you paste or share a URL for analysis, that URL is sent to our backend server to perform the credibility check. We do not store URLs on our servers beyond the duration of the analysis request.
• Scan history: Your scan history (URLs, results, timestamps) is stored locally on your device using SharedPreferences. It is never transmitted to our servers.
• Thumbnail images: After a successful scan, the video thumbnail is downloaded and saved locally on your device for use in shareable result cards. These images are stored in your device's private app storage and are never uploaded to our servers.
• Device information: We do not collect device identifiers, IP addresses, or personal information directly. However, third-party services used by the app may collect such data (see Section 3).

2. How We Use Your Data

• Video URLs are used solely to perform AI detection analysis via our backend and third-party scanning services.
• Scan history is stored locally to provide you with a history of your past checks.
• Thumbnail images are stored locally solely for generating shareable result cards.
• We do not sell, rent, or share your data with any third party for marketing purposes.
• We do not use your data to build user profiles or for targeted advertising by TruthLens itself.

3. Third-Party Services

TruthLens uses the following third-party services to function. Each has its own privacy policy.

Google AdMob
We display advertisements in the app through Google AdMob. Google may collect device identifiers, IP address, and usage data to serve personalised or contextual ads. You can review Google's privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy. To opt out of personalised ads, you can adjust your device's ad settings under Settings → Google → Ads.

Apify
We use Apify's scraping infrastructure to retrieve public metadata from TikTok and Instagram posts. Only the URL you submit is passed to Apify. Apify processes publicly available post data. See apify.com/privacy-policy.

Sightengine
Thumbnail images from submitted videos are sent to Sightengine for AI-generation detection analysis. Sightengine processes image URLs and returns a probability score. See sightengine.com/privacy.

Vercel
Our backend API is hosted on Vercel. Vercel may log request metadata (such as IP address and timestamps) for security and monitoring purposes. See vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy.

4. Public Content Only

TruthLens only analyses publicly accessible videos. We do not access, store, or process content from private accounts or private videos. If a submitted URL points to private content, the analysis will fail and no data will be retained.

5. Children's Privacy

TruthLens is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted information through this app, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

6. Data Storage and Security

• All scan history and thumbnails are stored locally on your device in private app storage. They are not accessible to other apps.
• You can delete all stored data at any time by clearing scan history within the app, or by uninstalling the app.
• Communication between the app and our backend server uses HTTPS encryption.
• We do not operate databases containing your personal information.

7. Your Rights

Since TruthLens stores data only on your device and does not maintain user accounts or server-side personal data, you have full control over your data:

• Delete history: Use the "Clear History" button in the History screen.
• Delete all data: Uninstall the app — all locally stored data is removed.
• Ad preferences: Manage Google ad personalisation through your device settings.

If you are in the European Union (EEA), United Kingdom, or California, you may have additional rights under GDPR, UK GDPR, or CCPA. Since we do not store personal data on our servers, most of these rights are satisfied by your local device control. For any questions, contact us at the address below.

8. Data Retention

We do not retain your data on our servers. URL submissions are processed in real time and discarded immediately after the analysis is complete. Vercel and Apify may retain server-side logs according to their own retention policies.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
